Here are some examples from a contemporary Russian portrait photography exhibition in Paris.

Jeff Curto produces a regular podcast on photographic theory, if you load them onto your MP3 player you can view the images on the screen as Jeff talks about a topic. Great for the next time you are waiting for a bus.

On Sunday nights at 7pm Channel 4 is screening a show on photography that is worth watching. Unfortunately the first one screened on the 7th January was on portraiture and I do not know if they are showing it again. The Picture This Website is also worth visiting http://picturethis.channel4.com/  

I have been told that it starts at 7pm tonight, if you have any last changes or additions you may be able to make them just before it all starts or call Carpenter House (tel: 01225 388703/388704) to see what time they are open.

You can either take your work away at the end or collect it tomorrow (20/12/07) otherwise it will be stored carefully for collection in the New Year.

The last session of each of the classes will involve some preparation of work for the exhibition, the university will be providing some display boards and I will try to find out what can be attached to them.

There will be an exhibition of work produced by the students on the creative courses at Carpenter House on the evening of the 19th December. It would be great to see some work from the Portraiture Classes so start looking through your photos and choose 1 or 2 pictures for the exhibition.  Your submissions can be discussed in the classes.

If you haven’t already seen it there is a portraiture special edition of the BJP (British Journal of Photography) this week. And for anyone obsessed vaguely interested in bokeh there is an article on Canon and Nikon’s best portrait lenses.

The BJP is only found in the larger newsagents and bookshops or by subscription.

While talking about June’s project ideas the work of Saul Leiter was mentioned. There isn’t much of of his work online however this site does have some of his images.

Richard Avedons official site is obviosly a good place to see his work, the Fraenkel Gallery also has some of his pictures as well as many other well known photographers and artists.  If you have the time have a good look at this site.

There are loads of photographers listed in the Photographers section of this blog so do have a look if you get the chance.

A bit last minute I know but this competion is open to all students at the University and there has been a lot of great work presented in the portraiture classes already.

If you missed the photography guide in this weeks Guardian newspaper you can order one online here for £3.50. It gives a good introduction to the operation of your camera as well as sections written by established photographers on a variety of topics.
