After a nesting seagull disturbed my pinhole camera positioned on the roof of a University of Bristol building I decided to end my exposure 4 weeks early (underexposing by 1 stop).

Here is the photograph, as you can see there is quite a lot of camera shake. If you know Bristol the tower is the Will Building at the top of Park Street.

Visitors to the Strobists site may have already seen Nick Turpin’s video, I like the minimalist approach and the use of everyday locations.

As I mentioned in this weeks class, it would be great to have some examples of  pictures you have taken during the course for the blog but also for course publicity. Please email me some examples so that I can send them to the ICIA over the next week.

These are links to some of the landscape photographers discussed in this week’s session, Simon Norfolk, and  John Davies.

Ansel Adams is seen as one of the masters of landscape photography sadly there are few websites that show the fine detail of his images. The Ansel Adams official website is a very commercial operation, there are a few images to view but the detail is not that great. Perhaps worth a trip to the library.

Here are some examples from a contemporary Russian portrait photography exhibition in Paris.

Following last night’s session I thought I should put up this link to Platon’s site, there are lots of examples of his portraits. There are also some video clips of interviews including this one where we learn the correct pronounciation of his name.

Andrew, Lee and Tim had a go at recreating the Platon style of lighting in the classroom.  

Most digital cameras capture the whole scene in a fraction of a second, Michael Golembewski’s scanner cameras can take minutes to slowly ‘draw’ the picture. He has built his cameras from old overhead projectors or large format cameras and mounted flat bed scanners on the back.

His site has been down for a couple of years but it is back now and worth a look.
