Cregory Crewdson’s epic photographic compositions

Last night I mentioned Gregory Crewdson’s large scale photographic scenes, these images requirea large crew to light, prepare, prop, plan, retouch and photograph the image. The scale of production and the final image is very similar to that of a large budget movie. For some examples of his work click HERE, if you want to read about the photographer there is some information on Wikipedia.

1. A useful if slightly cheesy guide to portrait posing

This guide has some useful tips on posing and positioning your subject. Some of the pictures are a bit tacky but generally I think the advice is good.

I just had a quick look through the blog to see if there is anything relevant to recent classes. You will find a few references to home made flash diffusers here is one, there is also a posting on converting colour images to black and white in Photoshop. Alex Majoli’s portraits of stars jumping

The Guardian’s magazine 5/5/07 had a series of images taken by the Magnum photographer, Alex Majoli. He thought that if when a person jumps their mask falls, see for yourself. The seperate images where montaged together to produce the 2007 Cannes Film Festival poster. The quality of the pictures on this link are not the best in the world.

This single page site has links to web resources that cover most of the history of photography. I particualry like the site which has re constructed famous historic images from Lego. I have not had a chance to look at all of the sites listed but what I have seen looks useful.
