Stop frame animation using still camera and tilt shift lens

This film was made using a special still lens called a tilt shift lens which is normally used for very technical images but can be used to create this toy town look. The still images are then assembled together to create a stop frame animation.

I know some of you have tried or are using The GIMP as an open source (free) alternative to Photoshop, it is however not always easy to find training or support. This link takes you to some documents and links produced by TASI at the University of Bristol.

Tonight’s exhibition

I have been told that it starts at 7pm tonight, if you have any last changes or additions you may be able to make them just before it all starts or call Carpenter House (tel: 01225 388703/388704) to see what time they are open.

You can either take your work away at the end or collect it tomorrow (20/12/07) otherwise it will be stored carefully for collection in the New Year.

I hope to see you all tonight, otherwise have a great Christmas and hope to see you next year.

2. Assignment 5 – preparation

For those that missed last night session I would like you to find a picture you would like to re-create and make some sketches to show how you think the picture was taken. You should place the camera position, the subjects position lights, props and background into the drawing. You should also consider the type of light; direct or diffused etc.

If you could bring the sketch along with the photo you want to re-create and any other roughs for next week.

Perhaps I did not explain bokeh that well, this is the Wikipedia definition. There are some examples of good and bad bokeh on this site.

A bit last minute I know but this competion is open to all students at the University and there has been a lot of great work presented in the portraiture classes already.

If you missed the photography guide in this weeks Guardian newspaper you can order one online here for £3.50. It gives a good introduction to the operation of your camera as well as sections written by established photographers on a variety of topics.
