The dying craft of the street photographer

When I used to do a bit of work in Latin America I remember seeing local street photographers using devices which were half camera, half darkroom. They would take all kinds of pictures from wedding shots to official ID pictures. I was so fascinated by these photographers and their magic boxes I remember taking a formal portrait of one in Cuzco ( I will post it here when I find it). In Havanna the photographers added value for tourists and would montage you beside Che Guevara or a Spice Girl. They didn’t seem to worry about copyright.

Thanks to digital photography this craft has nearly died out but this film shows one of the last street photographers working in Kabul and reveals the beautifully simple process that takes place in the magic box.
